Let’s celebrate community health
September 11, 2026

October is Community Health and Wellbeing (CHW) Month. We’re kicking off the month on October 1st with an event for newcomer community members. Register now to join us at AccessPoint on Danforth for snacks, activities, resources and information.
The theme of this year’s Community Health and Wellbeing (CHW) Month is Furthering Health Equity, Powering Connections.
At Access Alliance, we focus on improving health and wellbeing in our communities. CHW Month is an opportunity to celebrate our collective work with community partners, clients, and everyone in our community.
What Furthering Health Equity, Powering Connections means to us:
- Furthering health equity is at the core of everything we do. Our focus is on immigrants and refugees, including non-status and uninsured community members.
- This is also the month of Toronto’s municipal elections. Power your connection to local decision-making. Are you getting ready to vote on October 26th?
- Access to doctors and nurse practitioners is expanding. Power your connection to healthcare! Find out more about how to become a patient at Access Alliance.
- We use evidence to improve our services, and advocate for positive change. Power your connection to knowledge through our community-based research. Find out more about how we conduct research to better understand root causes and social determinants of systemic health inequities.
Get involved!
We’re hosting a number of events throughout Community Health and Wellbeing Month, and would love for you to join us:
- On Tuesday Oct 20th, Scarborough Cycles is running a Bike Maintenance Workshop. Join us at the Lawrence-Orton Bicycle Repair Hub to celebrate cycling and power a circular, resilient future.
- We’re powering our connection with youth! We’ll be hosting a Youth Mental Health and Wellness Day. It will be a fun, engaging, and supportive event where youth can learn about and participate in activities related to their mental health and overall wellness. Look for a date announcement soon!
- On Saturday, October 24th, join our Family Wellness Event, which focuses on youth, and newcomer parents/guardians of youth. At this event, power your connections with each other and your neighbours, through interactive activities and meaningful discussion with a guest speaker and expert in family health and wellness. A registration page will be available soon, but you can email FamilyWellbeing@AccessAlliance.ca if you are interested in attending.
- Our month ends with our annual Harvest Festival event on Saturday, October 31st. Join us to power your connection to the earth, food, and food security.
Follow us on social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) throughout October for more Community Health and Wellbeing (CHW) Month events!
