Community Activities

Community activities at Access Alliance include workshops, civic engagement activities, health promotion campaigns and fairs, movie nights, and children’s activities. Community groups often organize events that are open to the public at our east- and west-end sites.

Snow Removal

Through our east community hub we provide snow removal services for seniors. This is part of a larger city-funded initiative. We screen, interview and train experienced and reliable shovellers, ensuring seniors always have someone to call and help maintain their safety! Service rates are $10 to $15 an hour; a one-hour minimum payment is required per assignment. For more information, call 416-693-8677.

English Conversation Circles

Language is one of the most significant barriers faced by immigrants and refugees. We address this at a systemic level by advocating for appropriate language access strategies and we also provide English Conversation Circles to support newcomers improving their language skills. These take place at different times at our east and west sites and online. Please see our program calendar for more information.

Public Access Computers

All of our sites have public wifi which is available to all community members who come to our premises. Both our east and west sites have public access computers that are available during regular hours of operation. Use is only restricted if there are people waiting in line for computers. We expect all community members to abide by our code of conduct when using our facilities. We also work with volunteers who provide support to community members who want to learn new or improve their computer skills.

Holiday Hampers

Originally an initiative through the Neighbourhood Centre (now part of Access Alliance), the Holiday Hamper Program is a mainstay of the Taylor Massey community in Toronto’s east end. Each December, we prepare and deliver hampers containing food and gifts for the entire family. It is a wonderful time when volunteers, staff members, donors and businesses come together to – quite literally – make dreams come true for families in need.

Our goal is to provide food and gifts to 100 local families who cannot afford to do so on their own. Each Hamper contains gifts such as clothing, shoes, and toys. Financial contributions and in-kind donations enable us to include additional items such as hygiene products, canned food, and a holiday meal including a turkey and all the fixings.
