Volunteer Engagement Assistant

Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services is a multi-service community agency that works to improve health outcomes for the most vulnerable immigrants, refugees, and their communities. Position Title: Volunteer Engagement Assistant

Placement Type: In-person

Number of Positions Available: 1

Worksite Location and Conditions:

Placement students for this role will base at the Jane location but may be asked to travel to any of the following sites for training, orientation and events with advance notice.

Mask requirement may still be in place at these locations:

  • Access Point on Danforth: 3079 Danforth Ave. Toronto, ON M1L 1A8, and
  • Access Point on Jane: 761 Jane St.,2nd Floor, Toronto ON M6N 4B4

 

Brief Description of Practicum Project:

Assist Volunteer Program Lead with volunteer management and membership engagement duties, including:

  • Support the promotion of a community development approach to volunteerism throughout the agency
  • Build relationships and help maintain communication with volunteer community members
  • Assist with the recruitment, screening, intake, orientation, training and recognition of volunteers, using best practices for volunteer management
  • Assist with the development of volunteer opportunities and volunteer role description
  • Maintain necessary records in the volunteer database
  • Assist with the development of new trainings and info sessions for Volunteers and Staff
  • Assist with social events and programming for our volunteer community

 

Learning Outcomes/Goals:

  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team in a reputed community health organization
  • Working in an anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion framework
  • Navigate resources for culturally diverse communities through volunteer initiatives
  • Build facilitation and group management skills
  • Get exposure to volunteer management CRM (Salesforce) tools
  • Hone evidence-informed program planning, facilitation, and implementation skills
  • Improve outreach and communication skills
  • Impact measurement and report-writing skills

 

Qualifications/Competencies Required:

  • Post-secondary education in Social Services, Healthcare management, Community Development or equivalent (e.g. SSW, SSWI, BHM)
  • Committed to working from an anti-oppression perspective
  • Knowledge of, and a commitment to principles of community development and volunteerism
  • Good problem solving, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience working with newcomers and people of diverse cultures, particularly from low-income, marginalized communities an asset
  • Proficiency with key computer applications of MS, e.g. Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Placement Period: Fall -Winter 2025/26*, Starting September 9, 2025

*Although single-semester placement is possible, a strong preference will be given to students who are committed to two-semester (Fall & Winter) placement.
