Rooftop Garden Steward
Volunteer Position Descriptions:
Established in 2011, the Green Access Program uses the Green Roof at AccessPoint on Danforth as a launching pad for activities that build skills around organic gardening, food production, and biodiversity protection. The program brings together community development, environmental education, and health. The rooftop garden also provides community members – many who live in high-rise buildings with no personal outdoor space – the opportunity to participate in outdoor gardening activities. We are looking for volunteers who are passionate about urban agriculture, regenerative agriculture, and are interested in stewardship of our garden through the growing season.
Tasks include – planting seeds, transplanting, digging, building garden beds, construction of trellising for plants, weeding, watering, harvesting and lots of fun and educational activities outdoors
Qualification and Requirements:
- Must enjoy being outdoors in all weather conditions
- Must enjoy working with all life, including non-human life (i.e. insects, worms, arachnids, plants, etc.)
- Comfortable getting dirty
- Comfortable with physical activity (be able to lift 20lbs)
- Must enjoy learning and applying new information and skills
- Must enjoy working with other people and be open to learn and contribute your own knowledge base with others
Asset, But Not Required: Background in horticulture, permaculture, agriculture, gardening, botany an asset but not required (no experience is necessary!)
Location: AccessPoint on Danforth, 3079 Danforth Avenue
Time Commitment: On-going program Starting February 22, 2025 for indoor seeding preparation. Outdoor Gardening will start later in the season.
