Healthy Child Screening – Assistant

About Access Alliance:

Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services is a multi-service community agency that works to improve health outcomes for the most vulnerable immigrants, refugees, and their communities. We do this by facilitating access to services and addressing systemic barriers and poverty. The Centre envisions a future in which Toronto’s diverse communities achieve health with dignity.

Volunteer Position Description:

Healthy Child Screening was designed to help caregivers identify any developmental challenges in children 2-6 years of age. The screenings support parents and teachers to grow their understanding of children’s health and fostering the best health outcomes. The position requires Healthy Child Screening Assistants to help in any area of the event, such as food, greeters, station assistant, registration, etc.

Focus area: Children and Families

Tasks:

  • Assist in the flow of the screening day and ensure that there are no backlogs at each station (i.e. showing parents know where to go, any questions are answered, etc. )
  • Assist at individual stations where needed.

Location:

The Healthy Child screening takes place over 5 separate days throughout April – May. The locations are in a variety of TDSB schools in Scarborough. The Locations and times are listed below

  1. Secord Elementary School (101 Barrington Ave, East York) walk from Main Station

Monday, April 15, 2024 – 8:30am – 5pm (15 volunteers needed)

  1. Fraser Mustard Early Learning Academy (82 Thorncliffe Park Dr, East York, ON M4H

Tuesday, April 16, 2024, – 8:30 am – 5pm (15 volunteers needed)

  1. George Webster Elementary School (50 Chapman Ave., East York) Main Station

Wednesday, April 24, 2024, – 8:30 am – 5pm (15 volunteers needed)

  1. Crescent Town Elementary School (4 Massey Sq., East York) Victoria Park Station

Wednesday, May 8, 2024 – 8:30 am -5 pm (15 volunteers needed)

  1. Access Point on Danforth (3079 Danforth Ave.) Victoria Park Station

Monday, May 27, 2024 – 8:30 am – 5pm (15 volunteers needed)

Time Commitment: One or more full days of volunteering on the following dates:

  • April 15, 16, 24 (8:30 am – 5:00 pm)
  • May 8, 27 (8:30 am – 5:00 pm)

Role Type: Program/Project support

Format: In Person

Skills Required:

  • Confidence in public speaking and plain English language skills
  • Organizational Skills
  • Critical Thinking
  • Complete a new volunteer registration
  • Complete onboarding and Volunteer Orientation
  • Submit clear Police Back Check

Benefits to the Volunteer:

  • Obtain volunteer reference letter upon request
  • Strengthen professional skills: screening, public speaking, basic health education, interdisciplinary health promotion, interpersonal skills
  • Work alongside dietician team
