Early Childhood Assistant

Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services is a multi-service community agency that works to improve health outcomes for the most vulnerable immigrants, refugees, and their communities. Position Title: Early Childhood Assistant
Placement Type: In-person
Number of Positions Available: 2
Worksite Location and Conditions:
- Location: 91 Barrington Ave, East York, ON M4C 4Y9
- The student will work in a community and playroom setting
- Student needs to be fully vaccinated, pass a criminal reference check etc.
Brief Description of Practicum Project:
Working in an EarlyON and community setting, student will interact with parent and children as well as plan age appropriate activities for children 0-6 years of age. Student will be apart and work under the vision of an ECE staff.
Learning Outcomes/Goals:
The student will develop the following competencies in the following areas:
(i)Critical thinking
(ii)Research and Communication
(iii)Evidence-informed Program Planning,
(vi)Implementation of age appropriate activities
(vii)Professional communication skills and teamwork
(viii)Working in a unionized environment adopting an anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion framework
Qualifications/Competencies Required:
- 2nd or 3rd year education in Child Development or Early Childhood Education at a College/ University level.
- Demonstrate ability to supervise small and large groups of children under the guidance of the practicum supervisor.
- Model health and safety practices.
- Able to develop appropriate relationship with teachers, parents and children
- Experience with working with ethno culturally diverse populations in Toronto;
- Excellent computer skills, including ability to use Microsoft Office Suites, with intermediate level skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;
- Ability to work independently and as part of team;
- Demonstrated problem-solving, organizational and time management skills;
- Ability to communicate any of the priority languages (e.g., Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, Bengali, etc.) will be an asset;
- Ability to travel to Access Alliance locations on College and Danforth;
Benefits to the Student:
The student will learn learning to interact and communicate with new comer families and non-new comer families in an EarlyON and community setting. They will learn how to program plan and implement age appropriate activities for children 0-6 years of age. They will learn how to work in a team in a unionized organization.
