Description:
Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services is a Community Health Centre that aims to improve health outcomes for the most vulnerable immigrants, refugees, and their communities. We do this by facilitating access to services and addressing systemic inequities. The Centre envisions a future in which diverse individuals, families and communities can achieve health with dignity.

We are looking to recruit a local community member from Taylor-Massey, Oakridge, or surrounding neighborhoods to lead our Community Health Ambassador (CHA) team. The CHA Lead will play a key role in implementing health promotion strategies to address adverse community health outcomes resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. CHA Lead Ambassador will work with the Coordinator to support current/new Community Health Ambassadors.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to Coordinator in the recruitment, onboarding and mentoring of new Community Health Ambassadors
  • Provide administrative supports to Coordinator such as promotional and informational material development, attendance monitoring
  • Identify and prioritize locations for vaccine clinics in collaboration with Community Health Ambassadors
  • Develop culturally sensitive workshops and outreach materials on the topics of cancer screening/prevention, chronic disease management, mental health and food security supports
  • Support Community Health Ambassador team with client referrals by developing referral pathway and system navigation guidelines with Program Coordinator
  • Act as a direct liaison for Community Health Ambassadors and Coordinators to provide updates and information
  • Provide information on relevant training needs and other capacity building opportunities for Community Health Ambassadors to Coordinators
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to lead fellow ambassadors in mentorship, advisory and education supports
  • Facilitate regular meetings with Community Ambassadors to create and maintain a work plan and outreach strategy that responds to current needs
  • Work with Coordinator to prepare weekly outreach schedule, assign Community Ambassadors to clinics and community engagement events
  • Provide critical analysis of best practices to Coordinator
  • Foster “peer to peer” community of practice for ongoing information sharing,
    decompression and issues escalation
  • Encourage and provide support to Community Health Ambassadors to complete and
    submit Community Health Ambassador reports at the end of each shift to identify
    outreach findings and trends

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Social Sciences, Community Development or a combination
    of relevant education and work experience
  • Knowledge of community development and social determinants of health is an asset
  • Experience working with newcomers, racialized and/or vulnerable populations,
    providing front line services and outreach
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to understand and respond to changing community needs
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paces environment
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
  • Multicultural sensitivity and/or experience working in diverse neighborhoods
  • Familiarity in working from an anti-oppression, LGBTQ+ positive framework
  • Remain agile and ready to adapt to developing program needs
  • Ability to speak other languages is an asset: Bengali, Arabic, Dari, Tamil, Tigrinya,
    Urdu, Pashto
  • Ability to travel within Taylor Massey, Oakridge, and surrounding neighborhoods as
    required
  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • A successful clearance of a police vulnerable sector check

Please be advised that our organization requires all staff, students, and volunteers must be fully vaccinated. Proof of vaccination can be obtained from the Ministry site.

NOTE: All staff are expected to work on-site maintaining COVID-19 safety protocols and may be required to travel to and work at other sites as required.
