MSW Placement – Research, Evaluation, and Direct Practice

Position Title: MSW Placement Student – Research, Evaluation, and Direct Practice
Placement Type: Hybrid
Number of Positions Available: 1
Worksite Location and Conditions:
- Student will be provided a work station onsite as needed for research and evaluation tasks
- Student will need to travel to the three Access Alliance sites for in-program delivery
- College: 340 College St Suite 500, Toronto, ON M5T 3A9
- Danforth: 3079 Danforth Ave, Scarborough, ON M1L 1A8
- Jane: 761 Jane St, York, ON M6N 4B4
- Student needs to be fully vaccinated, pass a criminal reference check etc.
Brief Description of Practicum Project:
The student will develop the following competencies in the following areas:
Direct Service Delivery/Interventions/Working with Recipients of Service:
- Co-facilitate groups with other interdisciplinary staff
- Engage in all phases of a program planning cycle (e.g. outreach, recruitment, delivery of service, evaluation, report etc.)
- Provide resource and referral information to specific populations
- Develop, promote, plan and/or (co)facilitate educational groups or workshops
- Apply best practices as outlined by the organization
Interprofessional collaboration:
- Attend staff/administrative meetings
- Collaborate on organization’s projects
- Attend in-service events, programs, and workshops relevant to art-based therapy practice
- Consult and collaborate with professionals from other disciplines
Indirect Service Delivery:
- Collect and/or analyze data
- Prepare draft policy/program/grant proposals
- Contribute to research and other organizational initiatives
- Develop skills in cross-cultural/spiritual competence
- Develop, plan and implement prevention activities and programs
Qualifications/Competencies Required:
- Currently in an Master of Social Work program (Year 2);
- Experience with working with ethno culturally diverse populations in Toronto;
- Excellent computer skills, including ability to use Microsoft Office Suites, Canva, Excel;
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;
- Ability to work independently and as part of team;
- Demonstrated problem-solving, organizational and time management skills;
- Ability to communicate any of the priority languages (e.g., Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, Bengali, etc.) will be an asset;
- Ability to travel to Access Alliance locations on College, Jane and Danforth
Benefits to the Student:
The student will learn about expressive art therapy techniques, community-based participatory research, and engage in both direct and in-direct tasks. They will also become familiar with the Health Promotion model as an approach to improving the mental wellbeing of newcomer clients across Toronto. They will learn the process of program development, delivery, evaluation, and reports. They will have a chance to be co-facilitators in groups. Additional learning and resources will be offered on a variety of topics including domestic violence, newcomer and settlement, community based research, and trauma informed practice.
