Human Resources Assistant

Position Title: Human Resources Assistant
Placement Type (In-person / Virtual / Hybrid): In-Person
Number of Positions Available: 1
Worksite Location and Conditions:
- The student will work in an office setting with assigned workspace and computer
- Student needs to be fully vaccinated, pass a criminal reference check etc.
- The student will be located in college site HR Office (340 College St Suite 500, Toronto, ON M5T 3A9)
Brief Description of Practicum Project:
- Assist in supporting the day-to-day operations of current HR systems
- Responsible for the creation, set up of new employee files as well as maintaining current personnel files
- With supervision of the HR Associate, prepare job posting and employment letters
- Support with new employees onboarding, HR orientation and ensure proper documentation on file
Learning Outcomes/Goals:
The student will develop the following competencies in the following areas:
(i)Practical knowledge of HR Processes and Principles
(ii)HR Administration and best practices
(iii)Dealing with sensitive and confidential information
(iv)Understanding of unionized environments and Collective Agreements
(v) Professional communication skills and teamwork
(vi) Working in a unionized environment adopting an anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion framework
Qualifications/Competencies Required:
- Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline such as HR Management, MBA or equivalent at University/ College;
- Experience of working in an office administration role;
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, specially Excel, word and outlook;
- Experience working with a Human Resources Management System is an asset;
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;
- Ability to work independently and as part of team;
- Demonstrated problem-solving, organizational and time management skills
Benefits to the Student:
The student will gain hands on experience in different areas of HR including Recruitment, Onboarding, Off Boarding and HR Administration. They will learn how to deal with sensitive and confidential information and deal with sensitive topics in a unionized environment from the HR perspective. They will also learn how to work in a team and how to communicate effectively with different parties and stakeholders within the organization.
