Program Assistant:Holiday Hamper Volunteer

About Access Alliance:

Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services is a multi-service community agency that works to improve health outcomes for the most vulnerable immigrants, refugees, and their communities. We do this by facilitating access to services and addressing systemic barriers and poverty. The Centre envisions a future in which Toronto’s diverse communities achieve health with dignity. 

Access Alliance’s Holiday Hampers Initiative has been providing essential and gifts items to our neighbors for more than 20 years.  Our initiative is unique because it not only meets the needs of low-income families with children of all ages but also, newcomers, seniors and youth.  We are seeking 10 – 15 volunteers to help out with our Holiday Hamper program.

Focus area: Children & Families

Volunteer Position Description:

Volunteers will assist with the sorting, packing, wrapping and delivering of 100 + Holiday Hamper packages for our newcomer and low-income families living in the Taylor Massey, Secord, Lumsden, Crescent Town and Oakridge neighbourhoods during the 2024 Holiday Season, including:

  • Assist with coordinating the main space including setting up tables, boxes, wrappings, tape and supplies and volunteers during the Holiday Hamper Gift Wrapping Week (Dec 16-20)
  • Ensuring donations from the Adopt-a-Family and Toy Drive initiatives are organized and placed in correct Hampers
  • Sorting and dispersing donations keeping in mind age, gender and preference.
  • Assessing unmet needs and creating shopping lists to address them.

Commitment:

  • Attend 1 hour session with coordinator of the Holiday Hamper program (zoom meeting)
  • Attend onboarding with Volunteer Coordinator. (Zoom Meeting)
  • Up to 20+ hours from Dec 16th to Dec 20 and up to 7 hours on December 20th (Delivery Day)

Location:

  • 91 Barrington Ave, Secord Community Centre

Volunteer Requirements: Organizational and prioritizing skills;

  • Problem solving and organizational skills; attention to detail is imperative
  • Demonstrated high energy level and flexibility, pleasant persona coupled with sound judgement; flexible
  • Discreet and able to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to communicate in a second language an asset
  • Excellent Communication (oral & written) and interpersonal skills

Volunteer Assets:

  • Previous experience with Holiday Program an asset.
