About Access Alliance: Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services is a multi-service community agency that works to improve health outcomes for the most vulnerable immigrants, refugees, and their communities. We do this by facilitating access to services and addressing systemic inequities. The Centre envisions a future in which Toronto’s diverse communities achieve health with dignity.

Brief Description of Practicum Project: Access Alliance offers a wide range community services. Activities include workshops, civic engagement activities, and health promotion campaigns. Reporting to the Community Service Worker, students will be involved in planning and developing of programs to support community members. Within the Community Services team, students will support ongoing community programs, day to day operations including outreach initiatives and volunteer engagement. Students will also assist with program development and program evaluation.

  • Gain knowledge of working in a marginalized community with high needs, low income, multi-lingual and multi-racial
  • Program development and implementation

Qualifications/Competencies Required:

  • Second/Third/Fourth year student from Community Development, Social Service or relevant field
  • Willing to work with various programs and support as needed
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work with low income, multi-lingual/racial communities
  • Flexible and willing to take on new challenges

 

Benefit to Student: Gain practical skills in working with high need population and diverse community. Gain knowledge of working in a community health setting and effective program interventions to support low-income vibrant multi-cultural community.
