Communications Assistant

About Access Alliance:

Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services is a multi-service community agency that works to improve health outcomes for the most vulnerable immigrants, refugees, and their communities. We do this by facilitating access to services and addressing systemic inequities. The Centre envisions a future in which Toronto’s diverse communities achieve health with dignity.

 

Position Title: Communications Assistant

Placement Type (In-person / Virtual / Hybrid): In-person

Number of Positions Available: 1

Worksite Location and Conditions:

  • The student will work in an office setting with assigned workspace and computer
  • Student needs to be fully vaccinated, pass a criminal reference check etc.
  • The position is based at our College site, but occasional travel may be required to our Danforth and/or Jane hubs

 

Brief Description of Practicum Project:

  • Assist with the communications capacity-building initiatives, such as training and coaching
  • Assist with communications campaigns, curating images, and creating content as requested
  • Support fundraising campaigns and other resource development activities
  • Provide general assistance to the department staff as required 

 

Learning Outcomes/Goals:

The student will develop the following competencies in the following areas:

  • Hone communications and marketing skills to build effective campaigns (key skills include campaign planning, creation, and evaluation, audience segmentation and targeted digital marketing)   
  • Applied learned comms and marketing strategies to real-world projects, including
  • Improve and develop workshop facilitation and coaching skills
  • Solid understanding of how a community health centre communicates internally and externally 

 

Qualifications/Competencies Required:

  • 3rd-year (or later) post-secondary or graduate diploma student in communications, marketing, graphic design, PR, journalism, creative writing or a related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in health care and/or not-for-profit sector
  • Understanding of newcomer population’s needs and barriers is a strong asset
  • Skilled with MS Office applications, and graphics tools such as Canva
  • Familiarity with various social media platforms—primarily Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, and LinkedIn
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team;
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, organizational and time management skills;
