Short Description:

Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services (AAMHCS) is a Community Health Centre that is committed to and works to improve health outcomes for the most vulnerable immigrants, refugees, and their communities. We do this by facilitating access to services and addressing systemic inequities. The Centre envisions a future in which diverse individuals, families and communities can achieve health with dignity.

Among Friends  is a settlement program for 2SLGBTQI+ newcomers established at Access Alliance in 2005. It offers newcomers of marginalized genders a safe and supportive environment where they can connect to various essential services, build community and a sense of belonging, find pathways to housing and employment, and achieve success and well-being.

The successful candidate will be based at our 761 Jane St. Site but due to Access Alliances multi-site locations, will work in all three locations.

Responsibilities:

Project Management

  • Working alongside the manager to develop and implement program initiatives that are responsive to the needs of 2SLGBTQI+ newcomers, and in accordance with the strategic directions of the organization.
  • Lead the projects by actively managing the full circle of a project, including planning activities, develop budget and resources, supporting, guiding and motivating other project staff and volunteers, building and enhancing partnership, and evaluating and reporting project outcomes.
  • Using a shared leadership, team-based approach, provide mentorship and direction to students, volunteers and project-related staff to achieve identified project or program outcomes.
  • Track project data, gather community feedback and conduct other evaluation activities to assess whether objectives are met and recommend changes to improve the project outcomes based on community input or other relevant sources of information.

Health Promotion, Advocacy and Social Action

  • Collaborate with internal staff, partner  organizations and community groups to identify health priorities and work in collaboration with the community to plan and implement strategies to achieve better health outcomes.
  • Maintain familiarity with services and programs in the community, and share this information organizationally as appropriate.  Develop and maintain informational resources for the Centre and informational/ educational displays on selected health topics as required.
  • Act as a resource for community groups by facilitating workshops, seminars, information sessions or groups; by providing consultation, referrals and information; and by advocating on behalf of, for or with groups in the community.
  • Mobilize the existing partnerships and community resources to affect social change by developing social support networks..

Administration

  • Participate in organization’s relevant committees, work groups, projects, and chair and or take minutes at such meetings as may be required.
  • Identify the need for or participate in the development of policies and protocols, and follow all protocols and policies of the Centre.
  • Develop an annual workplan in conjunction with the supervisor, identifying actions plans, learning goals and professional development needs.
  • Submit program statistics and reports on a timely basis.
  • Participate in the development of project-related funding proposals.
  • Carry out other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree/diploma in Healthcare Management, Non-profit Management, Social Work, Adult Education or a combination of relevant education and work experience;
  • Minimum 3 years front-line experience in community-based program planning, implementation and evaluation;
  • Thorough understanding of health promotion and community development principles;
  • Demonstrated project management experience and strong group facilitation skills;
  • Experience working with 2SLGBTQI+ newcomers/immigrants and a sound understanding of the challenges facing 2SLGBTQI+ newcomers;
  • Experience working with multi-racial, multi-lingual communities and teams;
  • Success in partnership development and funding proposal writing;
  • Experience managing project budgets;
  • Experience supervising/ mentoring staff, students or volunteers;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with colleagues and community members;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with individuals and groups;
  • Commitment to working with low income, multi-lingual and multi-racial communities;
  • Proficient with MS Suite, and knowledgeable about common survey, promotion and communication tools such Mailchimp and Canva, and experienced with common database systems;
  • Ability to speak and write fluently in a language of one of the priority groups of the organization other than English is an asset.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and responsiveness to community needs;

Salary: 63,337 – 76,394 / Annual 

Hours: 35 hours/week

Duration: 12 Months

Bargaining Unit: United Food and Commercial worker, Local 175

Classification: Community Health Promoter
