Toronto Central LHIN Planning Process
Access Alliance, with the assistance of several partners, facilitated eight meetings in 2006 to discuss the new LHIN model of healthcare planning and delivery. Meetings were held at regularly convened groups at local community agencies across Toronto. The meetings encompassed people from 15 different language groups, a variety of ages and a variety of experiences with the Canadian health care system.
The objective of these meetings was to:
- Inform recent immigrants and refugees about the Toronto Central LHIN and its role in the healthcare system.
- Gather feedback from immigrants and refugees on what experiences the groups had had with the Canadian healthcare system.
- Identify areas of concern specific to these communities as articulated in their experiences.

Service Needs of Immigrant Seniors in Toronto
Access Alliance partnered with St. Stephen’s Community House to conduct a needs assessment for their seniors’ services with a particular focus on isolated seniors who speak Korean, Cantonese, Mandarin and Portuguese.
Funding for this needs assessment was provided by Social Development Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.
A table summarizing key findings from the needs assessment can be viewed here:
