Neighbourhood Profiles

Our neighbourhood profiles summarize key indicators of newcomer health at the neighbourhood level. We hope that increasing access to this information will improve the ability of newcomer communities to plan and address local needs. Where possible, Access Alliance plans to work with communities to prepare expanded community profiles that give voice to community knowledge and experience about health needs and determinants of health. Our focus on immigrants and refugees complements existing neighbourhood profiles initiatives and health planning data and maps (see below).

Neighbourhoods selected for neighbourhood profiles had the following features:

new and emerging communities (refugees, recent immigrants, young families)
a high percentage of recent immigrants, low income and racialized groups
significant potential for enhancing health and settlement services.

Access Alliance is committed to creating and disseminating information that will lead to policy and services that enhance the lives of immigrants and refugees. Therefore, we are sharing Neighbourhood Profiles with the broader community. These neighbourhood proflies are based on data from the 2001 census as well as other sources. We are in the process of updating the profiles with data from the 2006 census.
