Postcard petition to eliminate the 3-month wait for OHIP!

The Right to Healthcare Coalition has been working to eliminate the three-month wait for OHIP faced by new immigrants to Ontario.  On December 7th, 2011,  MPP France Gélinas, the NDP Health Critic, presented an official petition of thousands of  signed postcards to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, MPP Deb Matthews in the Ontario Legislature. This followed a press conference with representatives from the coalition who outlined the business case for the elimination of this policy in Ontario and a community member who shared her personal experience as a newcomer woman without OHIP for the first three months. 

The coalition is currently awaiting the response from he legislature, who has until April 1st, 2012 to address the petition in Parliament.
